Stop The Spread Clubs
In Zambia, almost one out of every five adults is living with HIV. Though the suffering and lasting effects are commonly seen, education and ministry in the area of HIV/AIDS is not routine. “Stop The Spread” is a God-centered team committed to equipping people to meet their needs concerning HIV/AIDS in a spirit of servant-hood. This is accomplished through Stop the Spread (STS) clubs that meet weekly to empower students in Zambia to positively impact their communities while specifically focusing on sharing God’s love and issues related to the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
Active STS clubs have multiplied from the original location in the Copperbelt Province of Zambia and now includes clubs in Tanzania. During weekly club meetings, the students learn about and discuss a variety of topics such as the biology of HIV, stigma, Voluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT), God’s Grace, dealing with trauma, community service, and youth entrepreneurship. They are facilitated by Zambian locals who are each assisted by an American Point of Contact who helps with lessons, answers questions, and provide encouragement and accountability.

We encourage you to read some of our student's testimonies, taken from an essay competition held at the end of July, 2011:

What is a typical meeting like?
Clubs are structured much like an after school club or youth group might be in the US. They have announcements, lessons, games, ect. They also have time to pray with one another and learn verses.
Click on the sample lesson plan to see what club lessons are like. This lesson is from May of 2011.

Short Term Trips to Support Long Term Ministry
Teams from the US take short term trips to augment the work of the clubs by providing trainings and workshops for the students and/or the teachers. A typical week-long program in a high school uses games, skits, music, teaching, small groups, and one-on-one interactions to teach the students about HIV/AIDS related topics and life skills.
The trainings for the facilitators is designed to better "equip" our leadership team to serve the youth in the clubs. This teaching goes both ways, with both US and Zambian staff "playing to our strengths" in order to be as effective as possible in ministering to the students in the clubs.
