Clean Water
The clean water initiative is focusing on drilling deep bore holes and installing hand pumps to make clean water available to entire communities. The project started in 2019 with 18 bore holes. Today, there are over 82 bore hole wells providing free, clean water to the people of Murundu and nearby Mufulira. Thanks to good working relationships with the community and volunteer project management, each bore hole has been installed at the cost of approximately $2200.
The bore holes are also checked on and maintained conducted periodically. We have done repairs where needed for the past few years. These repairs were difficult and unfortunately did not last. We are now in the process of replacing the galvanized pipes with PVC. We are replacing the galvanized rods with stainless steel rods. We are also replacing the cast cylinders (foot pumps) with stainless steel ones. Once these are upgraded we will continue installing new wells with the upgraded materials.
Check out the locations of the bore holes that were installed from 2019 to 2024 on the map below. Click on the top left arrow/square icon to see location names and more details about this initiative.
